ASOKA
AS A PATRON |
|
Asoka's
services to the Buddhist church are countless and his passion for
diffusion of the Lord's message is monumental. He was the only
monarch who ruled with undisputed authority over both secular and
temporal worlds. The Buddhists, who found in him a perfect master
and an affectionate patron acknowledged his superiority and adored
him without any reservation what so ever. His munificence cleansed
the afflicted of the stains of their misery. He devoted all his
energies and resources for the promotion of this cause. His
patronage took various shapes and it drained the imperial treasury
almost to the last pie.
