SOCIAL SCIENCE : THE SPIRITUAL BASIS OF CULTURE |
|
The political person sees it
in terms of political power, national identity, party affiliation etc. The
religious person sees it according to his belief and judges people by
theirs. A subclass like the artist sees it in his way, according to his
aesthetic values.
If our primary goal in life is pleasure we develop a servile attitude in life.
The pursuit of pleasure is the pursuit of the external, coming under the influence or domination
of the senses, which places under the control of our environment and
its sources of pleasure and pain, reward and punishment. We pursue immediate sensation and
gratification, which in turn deprives us of a life plan or purpose through
which we could master our destiny.
If our primary goal in life is wealth we develop a commercial attitude.
We see things in terms of how much money we can make through them or how much property we can
accumulate by them. This also causes us to manipulate the world and other people to gain more for
ourselves. If our primary goal in life is power or
status than we develop ambition. We want to become somebody, gain recognition, become famous.
We create followers for ourselves and subordinate others to our drives. If our goal in life is knowledge than we develop the intellect. We seek
pleasure, acquisition and achievement through the mind rather than through the body,
senses or outer world.
