LORD VIRUPAKSHA OF HAMPI

A new form of architectural and sculptural art came into existence during his reign, by his masterly intellectual contribution. And then came the invader ruthless. Though every holy shrine was mutilated and destroyed by the iconoclast invader, the Virupaksha temple was spared, rather it miraculously escaped the sacrilegious destruction as meted out to several other holy structures by the fanatical invaders. So it is still in its former splendour. The heavenly Destroyer, perhaps, sacred the earthly destroyer! Are the ways of God scrutable?

Later came some namesake rulers who inaugurated disintegration and finally it was the power-mad Ramraya, who irked the Muslim kings by his egoistic policies, and so he actually presided over the dissolution as it were, since the Muslim rulers of Bidar, Ahmadebad, Bijapur, Golkonda etc., forming a coalation wrought whole destruction and wreaked vengeance with interest due, to speak the truth. After Talikota war, fought near the villages of Raksas and Tagdi, some of the royal family members settled down at many places like Chandragiri etc.
