That matchless history making empire emerged out of the extreme necessity of preserving Hinduism from the onslaughts of Muslim rulers, who came from north crossing the Vindhyas under the generalship of Malikafur. Finding the disunity among the native princes, they began swallowing piece after of piece of Hindu kingdom with the strength of sword. Theistic minded Hindu kings bled their hearts at the atrocities perpetrated, and desired genuinely to thwarting the Muslim domination, but "Who's to bell the cat" question delayed action and that brought further destruction. At last the sun dawned on the Rishyamuka Hills of the epic Ramayana fame and ignited the slumbering heroism, an¢ it injected dauntless courage into the blood stream of humans and animals. It so happened that Hakka and Bukka, the valorous sons of Sangama, the chieftain of the Anegundi principality witnessed one day the incredible phenomenon of a hare chasing hounds during their hunting expedition.
