Puranas like
Skanda, Brahma and Setumamahatya prescribe rules
governing Yatra to this Pampa kshetra saying that Siddhi which is acquired after
12 years of penance at other places is acquired within six months at certain
places like Kokamukha, Kurukshetra, Naimisa etc., where sixty thousand sages had
congregated to carrying out activities for jagat kalyana. And Virupaksha Kshetra
is one among them. That is the glory of this Loud Pampapati who inspired and
guided a Hindu Kingdom, a like of which is yet to the seen and may not likely
come up anywhere at any time. The historicity out weighs antiquity and hence
visitation by scholars and connoisseurs of art more than the theists and
tourists.
