LORD VIRUPAKSHA OF HAMPI

Consecreted in Puranas; glorified in history; eulogised in Travelogues and divinised in literature, ruled by both Purana purushas and history makers; visited by eminent visitors of all countries, this sacred region rose highest in reputation as one of the brightest star capitals in the galaxy of empires adorning the firnament since the establishment of kingdoms.Alas! such a glorious kingdom fell victim to the petty Muslim chieftains, whose confederate armies brought whole sale destruction to the entire city ruled then by the weak-willed, egoistic, nerveless, power-mad RamaRaya. In 1565, at the battle of Talikota, the Hindu empire that stood as bulwark against invasions for about three centuries, disintegrated. After killing the king, Hussian Nizam Shaw subjected the city to systemic looting and devastation, besides desecration of cultural wealth to the hysterical gratification of Islam fanticism. According to records the invaders ransacking, plundered and carried away the fabulous wealth of the blooming capital continuously for five months from the third day of battle. Here is the all-revealing horror from the golden leaves of the FORGOTTEN EMPIRE masterly depicted by Dr. Swell.
