A reading of the recounter's reaction to
the pathetic picture of the destruction truly sends chills in the spines of the
readers and brings tears unknown to themselves. He writes - "Never perhaps
in the history of the world had such havoc been wrought and wrought so suddenly,
on so splendid a city; teeming with a wealthy and industrious population in the
full plentitude of prosperity one day, and on the next day seized, pillaged, and
reduced to ruins". Many others following suit wailed bitterly over the
calamitous disaster that consumed enormous wealth estimable in astronomical
figures only. Now come up the questions how, and when that remarkable Hindu
banner was hoisted and by whom and under whose grace. Answers lead to the
History of India of the thirteen century, particularly South India.
