INTRODUCTION

Divinity is personified in the image. The greater the desire and intensity of faith of the devotee, the greater the transformation visualized, until a stage is reached when all personal actions are surrendered to the  image as His, Complete surrender of the self is made. The divinity in the image serves as a surrender of the self is made. The divinity in the image serves as a friend, philosopher and guide. In this connection it is worthwhile knowing Sri Ramanuja’s saying:

"God must always be thought of in two aspects, one the Supreme Lord beyond our comprehension and existing everywhere in the nature of "Brahman", and the other the personal aspect of the Supreme. It is these two aspects that are often referred to as the two Vibhutis of God by Alavandar and the Azhwars in the Prabandhams".
