| According to our
Vedic, Puranic and Astronomic calculations as set above, the age of the present earth is
put down at 1956 million years. This period has been divided into four yugas. At the end
of each Yuga.There is a partial deluge submerging some portions of the earth under sea,
below Meru and Himalaya. Hitherto, three such deluges have already happened; first at the
end of Krita Yuga, second at the end of Treta Yuga and the third at the end of Dwapara
Yuga. In this connection, it may be mentioned that
the land beyond Kanyakumari, which was known as Limoria continent, where the Pandyan kings
ruled, has been removed from the surface of the earth. It is a belief that a vast
continent connected the main land of India with Africa in olden days. From geography we
know that the water area of the earth now is three times as much as the land. Probably,
the present ratio of 1:3 of land and water has been the effect of the partial deluges,
which happened at the end of each Yuga. |
