SRIVILLIPUTHUR

"Throu hath been raised to the position of our father-in-law." The priests loaded him with wreaths, gave him the holy water, accorded him all the temple honors and sent him back as per the wish of the Lord to Srivilliputhur to serve Vatapatrasayee for the rest of his life"

The tower (gopuram) at the entrance to the temple of Sri Andal in Srivilliputhur is 192 feet in height. Peria Alwar is said to have built this and the other portions of the temple, out of the purse of gold which he won in religious debates held in Sri Vallabhadeva Pandya's court at Madurai. The tower has 12 storeys. The wooden car is centuries old and is said to be the biggest and heaviest in India, with 9 massive wheels. It is decorated and dragged along the car streets during the Adi festival.
