Under
his expert captaincy, the ship weathering every storm reached the shores of
adorable Hindu Dharma and in course of time it became Dhakshina Kasi, forming
one of the 108 divya kshetras of the Punya Bharat. Being a polymath, he authored
many masterpieces on almost all branches of knowledge, particularly religion,
like Bhashvas on the Vedas, Parasara smriti, Sarvadarsana Sangraha etc. The
rulers believing in his remarkable spiritual powers carried on his behests with
implicit faith that made the kingdom flourish in every direction. He achieved
such spectacular success, while still on the gadi of Sringeri Mutt. So the
entire credit goes to the Saradapitaha, which enjoyed the honour of having
illustrious acharyas, who could wield powers over spiritual and secular worlds
with equal efficiency. But some contradictions arose that Vidyaranya was
different from Madhava, who was primarily responsible for the glory of
Vijayanagara. Evidence unfortunately does not adequately support the rival
claims to their satisfaction. Identification of Vidyaranya with Madhava is yet
accepted by majority. Dispassionate inference goes infavour of Madhava, the
powerful Amatyasekhar who shaped the empire in the initial stage was
Vidyanarayanaswamy himself. He built a famous shrine called Vidyasankar at
Sringeri through munificence of Vijayanagara rulers at
that time. Its architectural design and spiritual eminence are of unique type
that deserve close study.
