MOTHER
SARADA OF SRINGERI |
|
UNIQUENESS
Sringeri, the
tri-syllabic word with ringing rhythms presents on the mental screen, a temple
town abounding in glittering vestiges and lingering memories of three
unforgettable events that raised this tiny town into a mighty mokshapuri of
global importance, drawing thousands of devotees throughout the year. It was the
favorite seat of sage Kasyapa Vibhandaka, the venerable father of that
celebrated Rishyasringa at whose august sight itself, Varuna, the god of Rain
shuddering emptied himself to rejuvenate the emaciated Mother Earth. Secondly,
it was the seat of Mother Jnanamudrahasta Saradamba, consecreted by the
illustrious Jagadguru Sankaracharya. And thirdly it was the sublime retreat of
His Holiness Vidyaranya Swami, the virtual originator of the great Vijayanagara
empire that successfully repelled the savage inroads made by the iconoclast
Muslims for over three long centuries.
