Obeisance to
Sankaracharya, whose far - sighted organizing acumen proved amazing, success
monumental and fame everlasting. And all were inaugurated here. On account of
this unique glory, it became a much sought after thirtha kshetra of eternal
significance. The river Tungabhadra flowing to the right side of the Mutt is
equally famous, for it is called Dhakshina Ganga, perhaps for partaking the
sanctity of Lord Siva and Mother Sarada enshrining in the Mutt on its banks. The
purity of the water is legendary and hence the belief. `Ganga Snanam and Tunga
Panam' is a must and both are equally reputed for purging of sins with a dip or
sip. Devotees take bath first in it and pray to the deities next which enshrines
salvation.
