Poor Rishyasringa who know not
any difference between men and woman was easily gulled by the Jackal damsel,
mistaking her for a munikumar. As soon as he stepped on the soil of Angas, there
was heavy down pour to the utter amazement of people and Romapada. The Mother
Earth heaved a sigh of relief. The country was again in the bloom of prosperity.
In token of gratitude Romapada gave his adopted daughter Santha in marriage to
him.
This
Santha was the affectionate daughter of Rajadhiraja Dasarata, who at that time
was pining for the birth of a prince to succeed him on the throne. Realizing the
spiritual heights Rishyasringa scaled, Dasaratha invited him to Ayodhya to
officiate as the chief priest for conducting Putrakameshti Yagna. Under his
efficacious guidance, the yagna was consummated to the supreme satisfaction of
gods, who blessed the king with four sons, the likes of which the world has not
seen, nor the Mother Earth would bring forth again.
Such
is the holiness of Sringeri - the seat of Rishyasringa that emerged into lime
light in the Tretayuga. After Rishyasringa's merging with the Sivalinga of the
temple, it also receded into background and remained in oblivion till the
emergence of Sri Sankara Bhagavatpada, who chose this sanctimonious kshetra for
enshrining the Saradamba for religious regeneration of Bharatiya samkriti.
