Many
leading philosophers and Mimamsaka celebrities, like Kumarila Bhatta,
Madanamistra etc. were floored by his incisive criticism and dialectical skill.
His digvijaya yatra took him round the whole of Bharata and sanctified it. The
treatises he authored, like Bhashyas on Upanishads, Brahmasutras, Bhagavadgita
etc. gave a new glow to the Indian Philosophy and raised him to the highest peak
of glory. And he shone as the brightest, adorning the galaxy of stars, although
a tiny starlet.
During
this period, he felt the supreme need of establishing Mutts in the four corners
of Bharat. His chance visit to Sringeri convinced him with its sequestered
sublimity, enhanced by the sanctity of the association of Rishyasringa together
with his witnessing of an incredible event that occurred then. When he visited
this on his mission of disseminating his Advita philosophy, he
saw one after-noon a cobra spreading out its hood as an umbrella over a pregnant
frog in mid-sun. If the cobra were to forget the inborn racial enmity and extend
such compassion means, it must be due to the divinity of place, he inferred.Rightly too.
Anon he came to the momentous decision of establishing his Principal Mutt here.
He did. Among the four of his best sishyas-Padmapada, Hastamalaka, Trotaka and
Sureswara, he selected Suresvara to this pontificate and was inducted with due
rites.
