HINDU POLITICAL AND RELIGIOUS CRITIQUES
It requires that Muslims give up the political, literal and fundamentalist interpretation of Islam and its traditional law codes that prevents them from accepting the laws of a non-Islamic state. They cannot continue to hold to Islamic expansionist ideas or see their political identity in terms of their religion. In this regard we can look to the example of Hindus and Buddhists in America and Great Britain who are good citizens of their countries, yet have not become Christians or necessarily adopted all of American culture.

For Indian Muslims to be true Indians they must see their political identity in national, not religious terms. They must integrate into the society and not isolate themselves in their separate communities. They must also face the fact that Muslims have a history of aggression against India that Indians have every right to protect themselves against, whether from Muslims trying to destabilize the country from the outside or from the inside.

They must identify themselves politically with their country and not with the Arabs or Pakistanis. Certainly this may be a challenge, though it is hardly impossible.
