They
must stop bowing down to lesser beliefs and instead lead all people
forward to the universal truth beyond divisive creeds. To
find truth we must approach it openly, questioning even our own
deepest beliefs. Certainly
we cannot find truth if we place religion outside the realm of
examination in order to be politically tolerant. We must recognize
that we live in a vast universe in which there are many different
types of creatures, languages, cultures and religions. These must
come together, dialogue and learn from one another, breaking down
boundaries and distortions.
Such a new debate can be a great
adventure, as in the realm of science, perhaps the greatest
adventure of the age. But it cannot proceed without a willingness to
question. Of course, Hindus must be open-minded and accept fair
criticism from other groups and also look at themselves and their
own history in a critical light. Yet such openness should not
prevent them for offering their own point of view, which does not
spare the truth in an attempt to be pleasing to others. |
