Islam has a final prophet to whom all
humanity must look for intercession and shows a similar personal
bias as Christianity. No prophet or incarnation, however great, can
be for everyone.
Ultimately we must all realize the
truth for ourselves beyond intermediaries. Truth belongs to all
creatures and any creature that strives for it in the right way can
attain it. The Divine is not so limited that it requires a single
messenger, nor are creatures so much the same that they can all
relate to the same figure. No single messenger in any field, whether
art, science or literature, can speak for everyone or be
understandable to all. The insistence upon a single messenger denies
universality. Islam, like Christianity, easily becomes a personality
cult and remains fixated on a particular human being, who cannot be
without imperfections.
That Mohammed may have been a great
man in certain respects is not the issue, but as the ultimate
prophet any human being is bound to fall short.
