Summary of the Source of Teachings 

These and other source teachings can be divided into several categories.  

• The Book of Mantra or the Divine Word.
• The Book of Ritual.
• The Book of Mythology.
• The Book of Legend.
• The Book of Knowledge or the Inner teaching.  

In the Vedic Dharma the Vedic hymns, particularly those of the Rig Veda, are the Mantra which is the basic scripture from which the others evolve, the poetry from which they grow. The Ritual is represented by the Brahmanas and the Yajur Veda. Mythology is represented by the Puranas.
