Tirukkavitthalam - Gajendravarada Temple

This is yet another ancient Vaishnava temple lying around Sirkazhi. And one of the 108 Divya Desams held in high esteem by the Vaishnavates in particular. As it is situated on the bank of river Cauvery, the visitors have to go in boats to reach the sannidhi of Lord Gajendravarada. It is here four branches of Cauvery join and are imparting the confluence extraordinary religious .significance. A bath in this holy Nadhisangama confers merit and rids the bathers of their sins. The Lord's icon is artistically sculptured and wrings veneration by its posture and polish. The Goddess called Ramamani Natchiar offers a soul-lifting sight too. There are some adorable deities like I'ottramaraiyal Natchiar etc. installed in well-built minishrines. The Vimana is called Gaganakruthi. There are two Pushkarinis called Gajendra pushkarini and Kapila thirtha. And have legends too. Daily worship is offered with due devotional fervor and the annual festivals are celebrated with great pomp and splendour. Tirumalisai and Tirumangai Alwars have sung in praise of this Lord, bringing out the glory of the Lord and splendour of the sanctum.

It can be reached from several points of the neighboring towns. like Tiruvayyar, Kumbhakonam, Papanasam etc. Starting from any point one has to make boat journey to reach it.

It lies 18 km off Kumbhakonam, a famous pilgrim centre of Tamilnadu, accessible by four wheelers upto the river bank.
