Tiruccherai - Saranath Temple

The legendary name of this kshetra is Saranath and it is here according to sthalapurana the river Cauvery did penance for long. It earnea a great fame with the bounteous blessings of the Lord and has been passing for a holy river, greater than Mother Ganga, born from the holy feet of Lord Mahavishnu. Lord Saranath, the Moolavar is facing east and the temple built in the Dravidian architectural style is adorned with Sara Vimana. The Goddess is called Saranayaki. The holy tank goes by the name of Sara pushkarini. Tirumangai Alwar visited and offered Mangalasasanam, which is being sung even today on all important days. Regular worship is offered according to Agama tenets and the annual festivals are celebrated with great eclat.

It lies near Tirunageswaram railway station near Kumbhakonam of Tanjore district -of Tamilnadu, accessible by bus and train from several towns nearby.
