Tiruanbil
- Vadivalagiya Nambi Temple
Lying
in the vicinity of Srirangam, this ancient Vaishnava kshetra has acquired great
reputation for enshrining Lord Mahavishnu in recumbent posture. Though the
Moolavirat is bearing resemblance in several aspects to Sri Ranganathar of Sri
Rangam, here everything is small, yet dainty; but the sacredness of the temple,
nor the power of the archamurti is in no way dwarfish, nor insignificant. This
Lord too has fulfilled the desires of the genuine saranagathas as the Srirangam
Lord. It was visited by illustrious pravaktas and reputed Alwars too. The temple
built in the Dravidian architectural style is possessing all the parts, even
though its dimensions are comparatively tiny. The garbhagriha is beautified with
Taraka Vimana. It has the temple tank called Manduka Pushkarini with a
sacrosanct legend. The Tayar is called Alahiyavalli Natchiar. The icon of
archamurti in reclining posture with Sridevi and Bhudevi at His lotus feet and
Brahma seated on the lotus raising from the Lord's navel are quite majestic and
radiate vatsalya from His broad lotus eyes. The rulers endowed it liberally and
made everything grand and holy. Tirumalisai Alwar worshipped the Lord with a
garland of Pasurams that are still held in high esteem by the Vaishnavates.
Daily prayer services are offered with great devotional zeal. Periodical
festivals also held on a grand scale. Its additional advantage is-it attracts an
unending stream of visitors in all seasons, due to
the fact that devotees who are allergic to heavy rush and unbearable din and
bustle at Sri Rangam temple at the time of annual festivals visit this shrine
and experience emotional satisfaction. For, similarities in the worshipful
deities and mode of rituals are quite apparent and hence ,mental peace. It is
one of the 108 Divya Desams.
It
lies 20 km off Srirangam, the famous temple town of Tamilnadu accessible by four
wheelers.
