Nanmadiyam - Nanmadiaperumal Temple
The
Moolavar of this ancient Vaishnava kshetra is popularly call6d by two names -
Nanmadia Perumal and Veerasurar Perumal. The legend enshrines the anecdotes of
the Moon-god and other divinities who offered prayers devoutly to this Iord. And
they were blessed to their satisfaction. The icon of the archamurti is in
standing posture and faces east. The Goddess is also known by two popular names
such as Talachenga Natchiyar and Sengamalavalli Tayar. The garbhagriha is
adorned with Chandra Vimana. And temple tank goes by the name of Chandra
Pushkarini. Daily agamic puja is offered and periodical festivals are conducted
with due pomp and splendour. Tirumangai Alwar visited and offered Mangalasasan
and is sung on special occasions.
It lies on the
way to Taragambadi from Sirkali at about 15 km off it.
