Tirutanjamamani
Koil - Neelamegha Perumal Temple
Among the famous Vaishnava ancient kshetras extant around Tanjavur, this
Tirumamani koil is very famous and it is one of the 108 Divya Desams. It
received liberal patronage by the ruling princes and so has all the
indispensable parts in imposing dimensions. The Mulavirat is called Neelamegha
Perumal and is known for easy accessibility to the pious devotees. The Mother is
called Sengamalavalf. And the icons are masterly sculptured that raise the hands
of devotees in veneration, the moment one enters into His magnetic aura. Hasn't
he captivated the viewers, irrespective of their creed, from his avatarana to
niryana during his sojourn in this world in Dwaparayuga? He is and has been the
Prince Charming among the Swargavasis and marthyaloka nivasis too. To match his
glorious charismatic personality, the master sculpture endowed the icon with
rare charm that beckons instant attention ending in communion between the adored
and the adorers. The temple tank called Kannika pushkarini has its own sanctity
due to linking with pious episodes. This shrine was visited by Pudathal and
Tirumangai Alwars, whose Mangalasasanams are of great significance to all. Daily
pujas are offered with due reverence and periodical festivals are celebrated
with great eclat.
It
is 4 km off Tanjore railway station, a famous pilgrim town in Tamil Nadu,
accessible by rickshaw and bus.
