Vedic astrology employs up to harmonic sixteen charts (including the basic birth chart). These are based upon subdivisions of the birth chart and allow us to give a more fine-tuned meaning to the affairs of life. 

Aspects, signs and houses can also come from these charts. Western astrology is just beginning to employ such subtle charts. Most important is the ninth harmonic (navamsha) as this shows the inner meaning of the life and the nature of the soul.
