| There are those who say that Vedic
astrology is good for prediction but Western astrology has a better psychological and spiritual usage.
This is because many Hindu astrologers, living in a fixed and traditional culture, tend to use
astrology just to predict or order the outer affairs of life, when and to
whom someone will marry, what kind of work they will do, without any
consideration of the psychological issues that may be involved. We see the same thing in medieval
western astrology. However, this does not faithfully represent Vedic
science or the many great Yogis who have used this system. Vedic astrology is quite useful for pointing
out our spiritual path in life and giving us a means to connect with
the Divine via our planetary forces. It is true it is not so much concerned with outer
psychology, our personal and emotional issues. But it is concerned with inner
psychology, the spiritual purpose of our life. In this regard it is much
more developed than Western astrology, which but for a few exceptions does not even
recognize liberation or self-realization as the ultimate goal of life or understand
the patterns of karma and rebirth. An entire aspect of Vedic astrology is considered
with our potential for liberation in life.
Vedic astrology may, therefore, also be the astrology of the future. Certainly it will only be after many years of comparative usage of sidereal and tropical systems that their respective validity will emerge along with the forms of them which are likely to endure. Yet astrology will always remain with us, as it is as constant as our connection with the stars.
