Each planet relates to a particular deity. While there are several versions of this system, I prefer that given below.

The Sun: The Great God or Divine Father, Shiva.

The Moon: The Great Goddess or Divine Mother, Parvati                  

Mars: Skanda, the war God, son of Shiva

Mercury: Vishnu or the Divine Child

Jupiter: Brihaspati, the priest of the Gods (by other accounts Ganesh, the elephant God)

Venus: Lakshmi, the Goddess of Beauty

Saturn: the dark or old forms of the God and Goddess, Shiva and Kali

Rahu: Durga, the terrible and protective form of the Goddess

Ketu: Rudra, the terrible and protective form of the God, Shiva

We can take our preferred or chosen deity (whatever it may be) and use it to ward off the negative effects of planetary influences also. The nature of the deity does not matter as much as the energy of devotion that we direct towards it.
