Ganesh
Ganesh, the elephant God, is the first son of Shiva and Parvati. He is
a God of both wisdom and wealth. He removes all obstructions and grants us the fruit of our actions.
Hence he is invoked before any major project in life. His temples are quite numerous, particularly in
the south of India.
Ganesh is a very Kapha (watery) God and is full of love and joy. He holds the entire universe in
his belly. He is a little like the laughing Buddha in Chinese imagery. He can
also be found in Buddhist and Jain temples and is one of the most widely revered of all the Gods.
Ganesh is also called Ganapati. Both names mean the lord of hosts as he rules the whole group of the
Gods.
