Balanagar -
Venugopalaswamy Aalayam
This
shrine is the sole gift of a Jagirdar, who in turn obtained it as gift by a
Muslim feudal lord on recognition of his devotional fervor. The story goes that
the present temple lies in the Jagir of Burgula Pullama Raju, who served loyally
the Muslim Jagirdar of the present Shadnagar region. The Muslim ruler was so
pleased with the services and integrity of two officials belonging to high caste
biahmin vamsas of Julapalli and Pullamaraju, that he gifted away generously the
village now called Balanagar. The devout brehmin Pullanlaraju, the grandfather
of Burgula Ramakrishna Rao, the famous Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh soon
embarked upon tile grandiose project of building many temples in the village.
One among them is this temple which even today is attracting devout bhaktas
regularly. Modern renovation gave fact-lift to the old temple, and on account of
this, it is holding its tight grip on the pious public. The archamurti is an
exquisite piece of art that compels attention and adoration at first sight
itself. Agamic puja is conducted daily and the annual festivals are celebrated
with great devotional zeal.
It
lies in the Balanagar of ZCherla taluq of Palamur district of Andhra Pradesh,
commanding bus service.
