Peddamuktevi
- Lakshmipathi Aalayam
There
is a wide-spread belief current here that river Krishna was flowing in this
region, and this part was made sacrosanct by the dwelling and
doing penance by many celebrated maharshis, like Vasishta in the present
Avanigadda, Atri in Srikakulam, Vyagrapada in Puligadda, Chyavana in Chivalur,
Paremshamsa in Hamsaladivi and Vyasa in Peddamuktevi. As they were emancipated
by their tapascharya and austure life, these places, turned out much
sought-after kshetras for beatitude. The temple built here, naturally lures a
steady influx of orthodox people in large numbers throughout the year. This is
an ancient temple built in the Dravidian architectural style and many adorable
deities were set up in well-built mini-shrines. The beautiful five-foot high
granite icon of archamurti Lakshmipathi with Mother Rajyalakshmi to his left
gives eyeful darsan and lifts the adorers with bounteous boons. But it
disappeared, says the sthalagna during the Muslim invasion, rather was concealed
in a safe place, and re-established itself with great fanfare later. Agamic
daily puja is offered and annual festivals celebrated on a grand scale lure huge
crowds.
It
lies in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, accessible by bus from nearby towns.
