Narayanapet -
Lakshminarayana Aalayam
Narayanapet
is one of the flourishing towns of Matkal taluq of Palamur district. It is of
recent development and now enjoying the status of mandalam headquarters. But its
original name was Yella, an insignificant hamlet lying on the border of
Kayapalli estate. Ihe lords of Kayapalli popular as Lokayapalli Zamindars were
great Vaishnava bhaktas. They were famous for their social service and
devotional activities. They were Narayanopasakas both in name and acts. They
preferred to be called Narayana, of course with different prefixes like Venkata,
Iakshmi, Adi, Vira etc. In consequence their dynasty was full of Narayanas.
One
among them, being extremely devout built this temple and named it lakshnti
Narayana aalayam. He spent huge sums over the construction making provisions for
all the essential parts. Enjoying royal patronage, this attracted bhaktas in
large numbers due to performance of nityanaimithika pujas on a grand scale
systematically. He dug such a huge tank with steps on four sides that thousand
persons could bathe at a time. Many more shrines were built by the lords from
time to time. Moreover the estate staff lived here due to good accommodation and
congenial climate.
It
lies in the Narayanapet of the Matkal taluq, the Mandal headquarters town of
Palamur district of Andhra Pradesh, enjoying bus transport.
