Veerayapalle -
Channakesavaswamy Aalayam
The
origin of this temple is quite interesting. It happened - once when the devout
Nancharamma, wife of Vanaparthi feudal lord paid a casual visit to Hyderabad,
she chanced to go to Dattatreya matt, built and ably maintained by Kesaragiri
Babaji. Highly pleased with the supervision and conduct of devotional activities
of the temple, she sent invitation to him to go over to her estate and stay
there permanently looking after the religious activities of the state. She
gifted away Virayapalli - a flourishing village in token of her appreciation of
his piety. He agreed and pleased her with sense of duty and loyalty of rare
type. Later Rambilasgiri Babu, his seventh descendant intensified the devotional
activities by building many temples and charitable institutions. Among them, the
present Channakesavaswamy aalayam takes pride of place. It is a well-built
granite structure adorned with superb sculpture. In addition, he patronized the
poets and got them compose fine poems on the glory of the adorable gods.
Moreover, he printed them for propagation. Agamic worship is offered with
celebration of many festivals as done in Vaishnavaalayas.
It
lies in Vanaparthi taluq of Palamur district of Andhra Pradesh enjoying bus
facilities.
