Alurukona
- Ranganatha Aalayam
This is a valley temple of great fame acquired by its location in an evergreen
valley. This Lord of Alurukona is variously called as Ranganayakaswami,
Ranganathaswamy etc. About the construction of the temple too, there are two
versions - one-it was built by the devout Yeriama Raju, who was a feudal chief;
and another opinion goes to prove its creation to Pemmasani Timma Naidu of great
fame. Leaving the controversy to the ivory tower pundits, if we enter the
temple, the recumbent Ranganathaswamy blesses abundantly all the genuine
devotees regardless of distinctions of any kind. Surrounded by the lovely
spectacles of Nature's bounty manifesting itself in ever green sumptuous growth
of tall trees and thick bushes with green foliage interspersed with silver
cascades, this lures Nature lovers more than the pious theists.
The
temple facing south with a tall tower over the well-built mahadwar contains all
the essential parts besides a big tank with clear water. The wall panels are
beautified with elegant sculpture exhibiting several
epic stories. The Mulavirat in sayana posture with Sridevi and Bhudevi at his
feet and Brahma seated on lotus at his navel casts a spell on the viewers. And
blesses instantly too. Its antiquity coupled with sanctity is holding attraction
by conducting religious discourses and celebration bf weddings throughout the
year. The periodical festivals like Brahmotsav etc. are celebrated with great
zeal.
It
lies 11 km off Tadipatri of Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh connected by APSRTC
buses from several neighboring towns.
