Adividevulapalli
- Channakesavaswamy Aalayam
Built
in the twelfth century by one of the feudatory chiefs of the Kalyana Chola
Chakravarti Someswar III, this forest abode of Lord Channakesava is aptly called
Adavula Devulapalli Channakesavaswamy for its location in the thick forest.
There are two temples - one dedicated to Lord Siva lying on the southern bank of
river Krishna, and this Channakesavalayam located on the northern bank. Both of
them are built according to the strict tenets of vastuk sastra and are superb
architecturally. The sculpture is of no mean distinction in artistry. This
temple faces east and possesses, essential parts, like garbhagriha, etc. with a
sturdy compound wall and broad mahadwara surmounted by a high tower. The
archamurti is Chaturbhuja Channakesavaswamy holding in three hands disc, conch,
mace and the lower right revealing abhayamudra. The superb craftsmanship of
sculptors peep at the viewers from every inch of the icon as exemplified by the
smooth polish and dazzling sheen in addition to adorning it with excellent
jewels, crown, yagnopavita, karnakundalas, etc. The Chalukyan style of
architecture gratifies the visitors with several beautifully built mandaps,
enshrining adorable deities, like Anjaneya, Garuda, Brahama, Vishnu,
Mahishasuramardhini, Ganapathy, Bhairava, Adidampatis - Siva Parvathi, Valli
Subrahmanya couple, along with the Surya Bhagawan flanked by Usha and Chaya, his
consorts. Nithyanaimithika worship is offered according to agamas. Its location
amidst Nature's bounty is a plus point for a steady stream of visitors round the
year:
It
lies in the Damalacheruvu mandalam in the Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh,
commanding bus facilities.
