Kesampet
- Venugopalaswamy Aalyam
The
village Bekkarapalli belonging to feudal lords was changed into Kesampet in the
past, after building the Venugopala aalayam. The local version proudly reports
that Kesamma, wife of Raja Venkata I.akshmana Rao in her boundless zeal for
devotion to Lord Venugopal erected a beautiful shrine for the Lord of her heart
for regular worship. And desiring to perpetuate her name, she changed the name
of village from Bekkarpalli to Kesampet. Nothing bars absolute power, nor mars
its intentions. So the change was accepted and perpetuated. It is fairly a big
temple with four Mahadwars piercing into the strong prakara enclosing all the
essential parts. On a high dais of the broad garbhagiiha, there is installed the
lovely image of Venugopala flanked by Rukmini and Satyabhama on his sides. He is
adorned with a glittering copper kavacha. Regular worship is offered. Kesamma's
daughter-in-law donated a huge well-made Ratha to the Lord. The car festival
falling in the month of Chaitra is the star-attraction in this area and a mela
is conducted that lasts for about a month, when numerous vendors of all kinds of
goods camp here and sell their products.
It
lies in Vanaparti taluq of Palamur district of Andhra Pradesh, commanding bus
facilities.
