- Channahesavaswamy Aalayam
A
pious feudal lord by name Pedda Tirumalaraya ruling under the hegemony of
Vijayanagar emperors built a big fort at Tadimarri after the fall of Vijayanagar
empire. Being an enlightened ruler, he undertook many constructional programmes
on becoming independent and dedicated them to public. Among them, the five
temples built for Nilakanteswara, Channakesava, Virabhadreswara, Narasimha and
Bhairavaswamy aalayas besides five big tanks, five ponds, five big gardens and
one hundred wells are deservedly famous and they immortalized him. The broad
rampant walls of the sturdy fort was embellished with sixteen bastions. And
everything received imperial touch during his rule.
The
Channakesava temple is an independent one possessing all the component parts
built according to vastusastra. And they were imposing in dimensions and
exquisite in sculpture. The mulavirat of the temple is a good specimen of
excellent craftsmanship. The mini-shrines are adorned with parivaradevatas of
many adorable deities. The regular worship is offered
according to agamas. And the Brahmotsav falling in the month of Chaitra is
celebrated on a grand scale and attracts huge crowds.
It
